Executive Director of The Albuquerque Museum Foundation
JOB DESCRIPTION

Scope of Responsibilities:
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Albuquerque Museum
Foundation and reports directly to the Board of Directors through the President and Executive Committee.
The Executive Director is responsible for fulfilling the Foundation’s mission and financial objectives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Foundation Management:

  • Directs and manages the day to day operations of the Foundation;
  • Directs and manages all personnel and ensures that sound human resource policies and
    procedures are in place; develops job descriptions, conducts recruitment activities, hires,
    terminates and evaluates staff; provides training and maintains a climate that attracts,
    keeps and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people;
  • Performs annual staff evaluations and determines appropriate pay ranges for staff positions;
  • Delegates job duties and set priorities as necessary;
  • Communicates effectively and maintains positive relationships with staff, volunteers,
    museum personnel, members (existing and potential), and government officials;
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures as necessary or as directed by the
    Board of Directors to ensure that the Foundation is working in an efficient manner;
  • Promotes a positive image of the Foundation and the Museum in all interactions and activities;
  • Directs the creation of marketing materials and publications related to Foundation business;
  • Maintains confidentiality where deemed responsible and appropriate;
  • Attends Albuquerque Museum, Foundation and other community events that
    foster the goals of the Foundation;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Fund Development:

  • Directs all development activities including personal solicitations, capital campaigns,
    and oversigh,t and involvement in the planning and execution of fundraising events including
    Miniatures and Notable New Mexican, occasional creation of funding programs such as
    MasterWorks;
  • Grant research and grant writing;
  • Encourages planned gifts through programs and contact with planned giving professionals;
    and is involved in strategic planning to formulate budgets, goals and objectives for the
    purpose of raising funds.

Board Communication:

  • Attends and reports at Executive Committee and Foundation Board meetings;
    serves as ex-officio member of all committees; establishes sound working relationships
    with board, committee, and all volunteers; follows through with action items assigned
    as a result of such meetings;
  • Sits on the Nominating, Strategic Planning, Notable New Mexican Selection and
    Notable New Mexican Event committees; assigns Foundation staff to interact with
    the chairs of the Foundation’s other standing and ad hoc committees;
  • Conducts official correspondence of Foundation;
  • Keeps Board and Executive Committee informed of all pertinent issues that affect the Foundation;
  • Requests board action or guidance where appropriate;
  • Responds promptly to Board and committee requests for information.

Fiscal Management:

  • Directs the development and implementation of the annual budget and works with staff and
    Finance Committee to see that the organization operates within budget guidelines and
    that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to operate efficiently and satisfactorily;
  • Participates in annual audits as needed;
  • Maintains sound financial practices by working with the Finance Manager and Finance Committee
    to set financial policies and business goals for the Foundation;
  • Monitors financial results of operation on a monthly basis.

Membership and Events:

  • Promotes and builds membership base and related membership programs including
    the Patrons’ Circle and ArtEdge through the Membership Manager and the Donor Relations Manager;
  • Directs all membership programs and events through appropriate Foundation staff.

Revenue and Property Management:

  • Monitors the success of The Gallery Store, the café, and the Patio Marketplace
    through the appropriate staff;
  • Monitors the planning and development of the Batten House estate through appropriate staff;
  • Signs leases for the Foundation.

Albuquerque Museum of Art and History:

  • Interacts with the Albuquerque Museum Director and staff as necessary to conduct
    Foundation business and to coordinate annual and future planning for exhibitions and events;
  • Attends Trustee meetings;
  • Is familiar with the mission statement of the Albuquerque Museum and works towards
    the support of the statement;
  • Maintains positive and constructive relations with the Museum Director and staff.

Community Outreach:

  • Represents AMF at meetings or other forums with community, governmental, or other
    organizations as considered appropriate and/or as directed by the Board of Directors
    or Executive Committee;
  • Serves as chief spokesperson for the Foundation.


Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication, public speaking and writing skills.
  • Solid business, management and organizational skills
  • Nonprofit (preferred) or executive management level experience
  • Fundraising, financial and planned giving knowledge experience
  • Experience in management of staff – team building skills
  • Proven ability to develop successful programs
  • Experience working with/serving on nonprofit boards
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, email, etc)
  • Demonstrates leadership ability in strategizing and coalition building
  • Helpful to have retail experience or knowledge of store management
  • Presents a professional and personable manner
  • Undergraduate degree ( graduate preferred)

Hours: Full time, salaried, exempt position
Salary: Commensurate with experience
