Now Open

Albuquerque Now / Winter

Through April 18, 2010

Wide ranging, yet hardly comprehensive, the two cycles of Albuquerque Now/ Fall and Winter, celebrate the work of local artists with a diverse assemblage of aesthetic, influence, inspiration and heritage. Sixty-one artists were included in the very successful Fall exhibition; the works of the 100 artists in this second installation provide yet another reflection of the eclectic nature of our community and its inhabitants as expressed in the visual arts.

Media included in the Winter exhibition spans a vast spectrum. Collage, basketry, neon, furniture, textiles and ceramics are only a few of the many ''voices'' of inspiration on view. Works in the category of ''paintings'' range from oil and acrylic to enamel, gouache and encaustic, and artists trained in traditional methods apply them in new and exciting ways.

There are a number of internationally renowned artists in Albuquerque Now/Winter, including Tom Barrow, Judy Chicago, Eric Draper (White House Photographer, 2001-2009), Patrick Nagatani, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith and Joel Peter Witkin, to name a few.
